In Level 2, we use the Suzuki 2 Book. The group, level 2 class runs 16 weeks.

Group classes are $35 per student per 30 minute lesson, if you pay weekly. If you wish to pay for the entire session, the total price is $500 (a savings of $60).

Requirements for Level 2

Intermediate students should be able to read some music, either via Suzuki notation or American letter notation. In each lesson, students learn to improve their sight reading, learn long bowing, perfect staccato techniques as well as discipline with practice, music mathematics and appreciation for music. Violin requires a certain amount of physical commitment as well. We will be using the Suzuki Violin Book 2. Using this method, students will be required in class to bow without using their shoulders and eliminate wrist to violin support. They will also be required to hold their bow a certain way and to practice holding and moving the bow outside of lessons.

The great thing about the Suzuki Book 2 is that they are pieces that can be used for auditions to summer programs, scholarships, solo ensemble and scholarships. As with all lessons in the program, Suzuki believes that if the student already recognizes the tune, it will be easier to learn pieces of music from the very first lesson. Hence, I ask that part of practice be listening to the pieces daily. Each week we will cover:
-sight reading
-listening (from the Suzuki channel on YouTube
-dynamics

Week 1 and Week 2: Chorus for Judas Maccabaeus by Handel.

Week 3 and Week 4: English Suite 3 by Back

Week 5 and 6: Hunter’s Chorus by Weber

Week 7 and 8: Long, Long Ago by Bayly

Week 9 and 10: Waltz

Week 11 and 12: Bourree

Week 12 and 13: The Two Grenadiers

Week 14 and 15: Theme from Witches Dance

Week 16: Final Performance of your favorite song from this session

While I do teach using the Suzuki method, I do not believe that each piece needs to be perfect before the student can move on to the next song. I am patient. That said, students at this level should be practicing 20-30 minutes per day and be prepared for lesson. I suggest listening to the week’s lesson song each night before bed or as students are falling asleep.

Please let Miss Michele know if, after a lesson or two you will need more time to finish pieces. If there are several students and everyone agrees, we can deviate from the schedule. If not, then students will be expected to move to the next piece. Students will be expected to practice 20-30 minutes per day outside of lessons. Also please let Miss Michele know if you are learning a particular piece for an audition as she will try to help with that process.
